In collaborative writing, there are many advantages and disadvantages. In chapter two of our text there is a list of both the advantages and disadvantages. Each person could interject their own style into the paper, showcasing their knowledge on the subject at hand. If one writer pays more attention to spelling and grammar and the other writer pays more attention to the structure of the paper, they will compliment each other and the paper. Responsibility Each person on the writing team has a responsibility to the other members to get their part of the paper completed and turned in to the person that is compiling the paper on time. They need to make sure that all grammar and spelling is correct.

They also need to make sure that the spacing and alignment are at the right settings with the rest of the paper. Opportunities to work with colleagues Having the opportunity to work with someone that you know very little about often improves office relationships. Especially if you get to work with someone who has been with the company for a long time it would give you the opportunity to learn more about the inner workings of the company. If everything works out correctly, you would have a key member of the senior staff as an ally to help your career along.

There are even more disadvantages then there are advantages. When you feel as though you are easily replaceable, you tend to lack focus and determination. The mindset that what you are doing will not matter tends to lead a person to slack off and lose focus. This tends to lead to low moral and possible arguments on the team. Disagreements When things do not go as planned with a collaborative group, disagreements and arguments could break out. When this happens, everything tends to fall apart. This could lead to dissention and even very subpar work. Gender and multicultural differences When it comes to the world today, there is a vast amount of cultural differences.

Tragically, there are still people that don’t understand that. When those types of people get grouped in with another culture or race, things get heated and ideas turn to debates which turn into arguments and sometimes lead to fights. In what situations might an individual writing process be preferable? The most preferable time for the individual writing process is when the paper is short. However, a must for individual writing is when the interoffice relationships are not what they should be and it is a better choice to utilize a single writer than a group.
